My Grandpa Has a Tale
When my boys were in elementary school, I recall that I thought it would be great to have them and their fellow students each write a story that they had heard from a relative. We could then wind them together and title it “My Grandpa has a Tale”. Well, I never did get the project off the ground.
Then my first grandchild was born. David and Courtney named her Madeleine after my favorite Aunt and because they liked the name. Now, they are expecting their second and decided to name her Marguerite – my mother’s name.
David said “I’ve got the hear some stories about those two.” So I thought I could relate the story I’d heard about when my mother was born. I knew it was during the worst storm of the season in Saskatchewan and recalled some fun parts of the story. So I let my imagine run wild and wrote the story. I enjoyed the process and my boys enjoyed the result.
I once counted and realized I have about 76 first cousins. And, of course, there is my husband’s family too. I’m thinking that among them, their spouses, their children etc. there could be some fair to good story tellers. Our children and their children deserve the opportunity to ‘hear’ some of these stories.
This blog is a spot to collect those stories for our children, grand children and great grandchildren to know a little about their ancestor’s lives.
